About Me

I was born in Yorkshire in 1971 where I lived for a short while before moving several times with my family - including Wiltshire, Hampshire and Northamptonshire before finally ending up back in Yorkshire, where after a few more local moves I landed in Auckley, just outside Doncaster in South Yorkshire. I've lived here since 2004 with my Husband Paul, and our two Daughters Libby aged 5 and Eivie aged 3.

As for lampworking ~ I'm hooked, I absolutely love it! I discovered it in 2006, I bought several books about the art from Amazon, and after thumbing through them constantly until the pages were worn I bought all the kit I needed and just got started, that was it! I am totally self-taught, and I have NEVER taken a lampworking class! I've enjoyed figuring things out by myself, there have been numerous disasters along the way, but the satisfaction in finally getting it right is what I really love

After years of searching for a way to express myself creatively I've finally found my calling, lampworking gives me the opportunity to tune in to myself, work with amazing colours and take time out from my other life as a mum and a wife, I also have a day job as a Project Manager for a local hospital. I do my lampworking at night when the kids are in bed or on my days off work if my husband is doing something with the kids, I'm constantly itching to get in the studio and try out new things!

Well I've finally relocated to my studio (posh for converted shed !!), and it's fantastic, I can get away and I have everything in one place, it's perfect. The shed was originally two brick sheds that we used for storing gardening equipment, which we had to knock in to one. The first job was to fit everything in the garage which believe it or not was the most difficult job. It's pretty basic and I haven't got a proper extraction system in there yet which means I have to work with both doors open, in fact there are a few things to finish (a ceiling for one) but I've moved in anyway and the rest will get done as and when we have time.

My Workstation and my reliable (if a little slow) Hot Head Torch - Next thing is upgrading my torch (hint hint to any friends and relatives having a peek :-) birthday around the corner and Christmas looming.

The mirror is so that I can see if there are any little people creeping up on me, although I do have a safety gate in the doorway but at least I can see what they're up to in the garden.

My Kiln - yet to be named (Suggestions Welcome)

A long shot of my studio

Thank you for reading about me and I hope you enjoy my work,

Kate.
